The ISPS Code applies to the following types of ships engaged on international voyages:
- passenger ships, including passenger high-speed craft,
- cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards, including cargo high-speed craft,
- drilling units.
The responsibility for the development, implementation and maintaining of such security system rests with the ship operator.
PRS activities cover:
- unbiased assessment and approval of the Ship Security Plan as well as the Ship Security Assessment,
- unbiased ship audits,
- issuing the relevant certificate.
In the certification process, PRS uses effective methods and ensures unbiased assessment and non-disclosure with respect to customer’s confidential information as well as observations and conclusions during the process and after its completion.
Ship operators whose ship security system has been certified for compliance with the ISPS Code have the right to place the PRS SA ISPS Code certification mark in their documents. Principles for the use of this mark are available here.
