Pressure equipment – Directive 2014/68/EU – PED

Directive 2014/86/EU of 15 May 2014 concerning pressure equipment, called PED Directive,applies to design, manufacture and conformity assessment of pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure PS greater than 0.5 bar. The Directive also applies to pressure assemblies, containing several pieces of pressure equipment, assembled by a manufacturer to constitute an integrated and functional whole if they are placed on the market and put into operation as an assembly.

Pressure equipment includes vessels, piping, safety accessories and pressure accessories.

The following products are excluded from the scope of this Directive:

  • pipelines comprising piping or a system of piping designed for the conveyance of any fluid or substance to or from an installation (onshore or offshore),
  • networks for the supply, distribution and discharge of water and associated equipment and headraces such as penstocks, pressure
  • tunnels, pressure shafts for hydroelectric installations and their related specific accessories,
  • items specifically designed for nuclear use, failure of which may cause an emission of radioactivity,
  • exhaust and inlet silencers,
  • bottles or cans for carbonated drinks for final consumption,ships, rockets, aircraft and mobile off-shore units, as well as equipment specifically intended for installation on board or the propulsion thereof.

Before placing pressure equipment on the market, the manufacturer shall subject each item of equipment to one of the conformity assessment procedures described in Annex III to the Directive.

The Polish Register of Shipping executes all procedures of conformity assessment with PED Directive for pressure equipment and assemblies.

  • choose the module, i.e. conformity assessment procedure, the product is to be subjected to and
  • send us completed Application Form for Product Certification (Submitting application is not an obligation to use our services, it is only the basis to prepare our offer for your Company).
