Representatives of Polish Register of Shipping attended the ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company Chipolbrok. The jubilee was an opportunity to honour the achievements of one of the most important companies in the history of maritime cooperation between Poland and China, as well as to highlight the long-standing relationship between PRS and Chipolbrok.
Chipolbrok is the oldest Chinese deep-sea shipping company and the first enterprise with foreign capital participation in the People’s Republic of China. For 75 years, the company has played an important role in the development of international shipping and in strengthening Polish-Chinese economic relations in the maritime sector.

Long-standing cooperation between PRS and Chipolbrok
The participation of Polish Register of Shipping in Chipolbrok’s anniversary ceremony was an expression of recognition for the company’s achievements and a confirmation of the importance of the long-standing cooperation between the two organisations.
The cooperation between Chipolbrok and PRS dates back to the early years of the shipping company. One of the first major joint projects was the supervision of the construction of four general cargo vessels for Chipolbrok at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai in 1986. The project was carried out together with the China Classification Society, CCS.
The vessels had a deadweight of 16,200 tonnes each, were strengthened for the carriage of heavy cargo, and were adapted for container transport.
Chipolbrok vessels built under PRS supervision
Another important stage of cooperation was the construction of six multipurpose general cargo vessels with a deadweight of 30,000 tonnes, ordered by Chipolbrok. The project began in 2007 at the COSCO shipyard in Dalian. Three vessels from this series were built under the supervision of Polish Register of Shipping and to PRS class.
The vessels, named “Adam Asnyk”, “Parandowski” and “Kraszewski”, were delivered for operation between 2009 and 2011.
In 2020, PRS signed an agreement with Chengxi Shipyard in Jiangyin for the supervision of the construction of two 62,000 DWT general cargo vessels for Chipolbrok. Supervision of the newbuildings was carried out by surveyors from the PRS Shanghai Office. The vessels were delivered at the beginning of 2022 and were named “Herbert” and “Pilecki”.
“KOPERNIK” — another vessel under PRS supervision
In May 2026, the vessel “KOPERNIK” was delivered for operation. The ship was also built under the supervision of Polish Register of Shipping at Taizhou Kouan Shipyard.
The implementation of further projects for Chipolbrok confirms PRS’s competence in the supervision of ship construction and highlights the importance of the PRS Shanghai Office in supporting projects carried out in the Chinese market.
