Successful launch in a Chinese shipyard
Last Thursday, January 29, 2026, marked a pivotal milestone in the latest project for the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company Chipolbrok. The multi-purpose vessel “KOPERNIK” was officially launched at the Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. shipyard. The entire construction process of the ship is being conducted under the technical supervision of the Polish Register of Shipping (PRS).
Impressive pace and Polish-Chinese synergy
The project is progressing at an extraordinary speed. Just two months after the keel-laying ceremony, the vessel was launched and towed to the outfitting quay for the final stages of construction. This rapid progress is a direct result of the shipyard’s extensive expertise and seamless cooperation between the classification society and the owner’s technical services.
A modern fleet for special tasks
The newly launched “KOPERNIK” is the fourth in a series of state-of-the-art 62,000 DWT Multi-Purpose Heavy Lift Vessels designed for Chipolbrok. It joins its sister ships: „YU AN”, “BOYM”, and “DE AN” – further strengthening Chipolbrok’s position as a leader in the heavy-lift and breakbulk sector.
Specialized shipbuilding excellence
Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., the birthplace of “KOPERNIK,” is a premier facility specializing in Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPV), Heavy Lift Vessels, Container Vessels, and Bulk Carriers. Key representatives from the shipyard, the shipowner, and the classification society attended the launch ceremony. The Polish Register of Shipping was represented by the new Manager of the PRS Shanghai Branch, Mr. Chong Wang, Business Development Specialist at PRS Shanghai, Mr. Karol Pokora, and the PRS surveyors supervising the construction.
The high standards of execution are guaranteed by a team of experienced surveyors led by Mr. Wojsław Babiński, supported by inspectors Mr. Jin Sheng Chen and Mr. Wenrong Lu. The professionalism and deep expertise of the PRS team ensure both the efficiency of the project and the superior quality of the workmanship.
A partnership built on trust
