A delegation of the Ship Division of the Polish Register of Shipping has concluded an important visit to Asia. The objective was to strengthen technical and classification cooperation with key partners, establish new business relationships, and increase PRS brand recognition in Asian markets, including the shipbuilding sector.
During the visit, the Director of the Ship Division, Aleksander Łęgowski, and the Deputy Director of the Machinery and Equipment Department, Bartosz Dombrzalski, met with representatives of maritime administrations, shipowners, shipyards, and key stakeholders from the maritime sector in China, India, and Vietnam. In all locations, PRS encountered strong interest in its services and received high recognition of its technical competencies.
Summary of discussions
As a result of the meetings in each of the visited countries, PRS was perceived and remembered as a professional, efficient classification society offering significant potential for cooperation. The counterparts expressed full interest in collaboration and in launching new joint projects, including combined involvement in ship design and type approvals, enhanced supervision and technical support for newbuildings and conversions, as well as the development of new channels for PRS engagement in the rapidly growing Asian shipbuilding industry.
Expected outcomes
We are confident that the discussions held will deliver tangible results. The meetings in India create opportunities for rapid development of cooperation, including in the areas of classification of newbuildings, specialized technical audits outside the scope of classification (non-class), approvals (TAC), exhaust gas emissions reporting, recycling, ship energy efficiency, and certification of life-saving appliances.
We expect that the visit to Vietnam will result, among other outcomes, in closer cooperation and recognition of PRS by the Vietnam Register, which will further strengthen Polish–Vietnamese cooperation in the field of maritime safety and technical supervision. Similarly, the meetings in China may also bring measurable results, with particular focus placed on demand for type approval, ship outfitting projects, and technical support for modernization works.
We believe that the relationships established with partners from the Far East will enable further expansion of PRS in this region and support the development of its image as a classification society with high-level competencies. Plans are in place to open new offices in Asia, which will provide an even stronger foundation for closer cooperation with the Asian shipbuilding sector.
