On 28th of April 2026, a naming ceremony was held at the Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding shipyard in China for a new vessel built for the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company Chipolbrok.
The vital role of PRS in the construction process
A significant role during the ceremony was played by the Polish Register of Shipping, which, as the classification society, supervised the construction of the vessel. Representatives of PRS actively participated in the event, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the Chipolbrok and Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Shipyard.

PRS was represented during the ceremony by the President of the Board, Grzegorz Pettke, PRS IACS GPG Member, Leszek Pokora, PRS Shanghai Branch Office Manager, Chong Wang, PRS Shanghai Branch Office Business Development Specialist, Karol Pokora, Leader of the team supervising the construction of the KOPERNIK vessel, Wojsław Babiński and PRS Shanghai Branch Office Surveyor, Wenrong Lu.
“Kopernik” – a tribute to the great Polish scientist
The Godmother of the vessel was Katarzyna Bralczyk, Consul and Head of Unit for Economic and Cultural Affairs of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Shanghai. Vessel was named “KOPERNIK to honor one of the most eminent Polish scholars – the astronomer and economist who pioneered the heliocentric model of the Solar System.
Strengthening the Polish class society’s presence and trust in Asian markets
The involvement of PRS in the vessel’s construction and certification process, as well as the PRS President’s presence at the naming ceremony, emphasizes the importance of the long-standing relationship between PRS and Chipolbrok. The event also marks another step in strengthening PRS position in the Asian markets. Furthermore, Chinese design offices and shipyards have expressed a strong interest in collaborating with PRS, highly valuing the expertise and technical competence of the Polish classification society.
