PRS is expanding its presence in the Indian market. Participation in the Polish business mission to India created new opportunities for cooperation with partners from one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and provided an opportunity to showcase PRS expertise in classification, certification, and projects supporting the defense sector.
On 22-23 October 2026, Polish Register of Shipping participated in the Polish business mission to India, organized alongside the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Donald Tusk. The mission brought together nearly 100 Polish companies and more than 500 participants in business forums.
PRS was represented by Aleksander Łęgowski, Director of the Ship Division, and Krzysztof Topolski, Director of the Industrial Supervision Division.
Poland and India strengthen economic cooperation
The mission aimed to strengthen economic cooperation between Poland and India, increase mutual investment, and foster the growth of bilateral trade. Key areas of potential cooperation include defense, energy, agriculture, science, and advanced technologies.
As part of the program, the Polish-Indian Business Forum was held, featuring information sessions and sector-focused roundtable discussions. The forum provided a platform for exchanging experiences, establishing business relationships, and identifying new opportunities for cooperation between companies from both countries.
PRS in the discussion on defense and dual-use solutions
During the Forum, PRS representatives participated in the sectoral discussion titled “Defense and Dual Use”. Aleksander Łęgowski presented the activities of PRS, the scope of the company’s expertise, and its experience gained through projects in the maritime, industrial, and defense sectors.
In his speech, he outlined PRS current presence in the Indian market and plans for further development in the country. He discussed ongoing efforts to obtain authorization from the Indian Maritime Administration for PRS to act as a Recognized Organization (RO) and Recognized Security Organization (RSO). He also announced plans to establish a local PRS office in India within the next two years.
Mr. Łęgowski additionally highlighted that PRS can serve as a valuable partner for Indian businesses seeking access to the European Union market by providing independent conformity assessment and certification services in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements for products, materials, and equipment manufactured in India.
Polish experience in dual-use vessel design
Aleksander Łęgowski also shared Polish experience and capabilities in the design and construction of dual-use vessels. As an example, he referred to the B-488 ro-ro vessel series, built at the former Gdynia Shipyard and designed with the capability to transport heavy equipment.
He emphasized that specific design solutions, such as reinforced decks and adapted technical infrastructure, can be incorporated at the vessel design stage. This enables commercial ships to effectively support logistics operations and the transport of military equipment when required.
PRS expertise in defense sector projects
In his presentation, the Director of the Ship Division also showcased PRS experience in the approval of technical documentation and technical supervision of naval vessel construction projects.
He highlighted PRS involvement in projects including the Kormoran II mine countermeasure vessels, the Ratownik rescue vessel, and hydrographic reconnaissance ships. He also presented PRS contribution to works related to the aviation infrastructure of frigates being developed under the Miecznik program.
The Indian market as an important direction for PRS growth
Participation in the business mission to India is consistent with PRS strategy of international development and strengthening its presence in promising foreign markets. The rapid growth of India’s maritime, shipbuilding, energy, and infrastructure sectors creates new opportunities for cooperation in classification, certification, and technical supervision services.
With 90 years of experience, IACS membership, recognitions from maritime administrations worldwide, and expertise developed across the maritime, offshore, industrial, and energy sectors, PRS is well positioned to support partners undertaking complex infrastructure and technology projects.
As an IACS member classification society recognized by maritime administrations worldwide, PRS continues to expand cooperation with maritime, industrial, and energy-sector stakeholders in India, providing classification, certification, conformity assessment, and technical supervision services.
Participation in international business forums enables PRS not only to build valuable business relationships but also to promote Polish technical expertise globally and actively contribute to the development of economic cooperation between Poland and key international partners.
