PRS opens a new chapter of cooperation with the China Classification Society (CCS)

We are pleased to announce that two classification societies, both members of the renowned IACS – the International Association of Classification Societies – have signed a new general cooperation agreement.

Through this settlement, both classification societies expressed their intention to cooperate in the areas of classification of ships — new constructions and ships in operation, certification of marine materials, equipment, and components, as well as other related fields.

The agreement was signed on June 29 in the headquarters of CCS in Beijing. On the Chinese side, it was signed by President Zhao Yan. On behalf of PRS, the contract was signed by President Grzegorz Pettke.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of both parties. The President of PRS was accompanied by the head of the PRS Branch Office in China – the Executive Director of PRS (Shanghai) Vessel Inspection Company Limited, Mr. Leszek Pokora, and PRS IACS GPG Member, Mr. Henryk Pepliński.

The partnership between the two classification societies dates back to 1986, when the Polish Register of Shipping and the China Classification Society jointly supervised the construction of four general cargo vessels for Chipolbrok at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai. These 18,200-deadweight-ton vessels were specially reinforced for heavy-lift operations and designed to accommodate container transport, marking a significant milestone in the early stages of bilateral cooperation.
