New Ship for Chipolbrok Under PRS Supervision

New Ship for Chipolbrok Under PRS Supervision
Another Chapter in Chipolbrok and PRS Cooperation

On May 29, 2025, a symbolic steel-cutting ceremony took place at the Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. shipyard in China, marking the beginning of construction on a new vessel for the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company, Chipolbrok. This event not only signifies the technical start of the ship’s construction but also marks another important milestone in the collaboration between the PRS and Chipolbrok.

PRS in the Far East

Representatives of the shipyard, Chipolbrok, and Polish Register of Shipping attended the ceremony. PRS delegates were Leszek Pokora, Executive Director of PRS (Shanghai) Vessel Inspection Company Limited, and Jin Sheng Chen, surveyor of the PRS Shanghai Branch Office. As the classification society, PRS will supervise the construction and issue all necessary class and statutory certificates.

The Fourth in the Series

The vessel currently under construction will be the fourth ship built for the Chinese-Polish shipowner by Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The shipyard previously delivered the “YU AN”, “BOYM”, and “DE AN”. The newly launched project is a multi-purpose heavy-lift vessel of the 62,000 DWT type, with the shipyard number TK2313. Unofficial sources suggest it will be named “KOPERNIK”, a fitting tribute to Poland’s scientific heritage. The construction is scheduled for completion next year.

PRS and Chipolbrok – A Proven Partnership

It is not the first time the Polish Register of Shipping is working with Chipolbrok on the supervision of vessels of the same type (62,000 DWT). In 2021–2022, PRS supervised the construction of the “HERBERT” and “PILECKI” vessels at China’s Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd. This current project builds upon a well-established partnership, demonstrating that Polish engineering and technical expertise are trusted even in the demanding Asian market.

Toward a Modern Fleet

The construction of multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels is a response to the growing demand for transporting project and oversized cargo. As a leader in this segment, Chipolbrok continues to expand its fleet, focusing on modernity, flexibility, and reliability — and PRS ensures that each supervised vessel meets the highest safety and quality standards.

Symbolic Cooperation with Global Reach

Although the ship is being built in China and will fly a foreign flag, its construction and future operation are supervised by a Polish classification society. This is a prime example of how Polish companies can operate successfully on a global scale while maintaining high quality and a strong presence in the maritime economy sector.
