Polish Register of Shipping supervises the construction of the rescue ship “Ratownik”

The Polish Register of Shipping (PRS) is supervising the design and construction of the modern rescue ship “Ratownik”, being built at PGZ Stocznia Wojenna for the Polish Navy. The vessel is an important element of the Navy’s technical modernisation programme and will be dedicated to conducting rescue operations, supporting underwater missions, and providing technical and medical assistance to naval ships and their crews.

Scope of supervision provided by PRS

The scope of PRS supervision covers a comprehensive review of the design documentation, inspection of the construction and outfitting process, and participation in shipyard and sea trials. PRS surveyors ensure full compliance with classification rules, safety regulations, and environmental protection standards, guaranteeing the highest level of quality and reliability of the ship.

Equipment and operational capabilities of the vessel

The “Ratownik” will be equipped with advanced diving and rescue systems, facilities for evacuating submarine crews, and a specialised medical unit, enabling the Polish Navy to carry out effective rescue and training operations in a wide range of maritime conditions.

PRS experience in naval projects

PRS involvement in this project continues the institution’s long-standing contribution to the development of the Polish Navy fleet. The Polish Register of Shipping previously supervised the construction of the patrol ship Ślązak, a series of harbour tugs and modern mine countermeasure ships of the Kormoran II class, confirming its high technical competence and strong cooperation with the Polish shipbuilding and defense industries.

PRS contribution to maritime safety and industry development

The participation of PRS in the construction of the “Ratownik” highlights the institution’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of national maritime capabilities and enhancing safety at sea. For almost 90 years, the Polish Register of Shipping has been providing expert technical supervision, contributing to the safety of navigation and the growth of Poland’s shipbuilding sector, and ensuring that projects of strategic importance for national defense meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
