On 10 October this year, an agreement was concluded authorizing the Polish Register of Shipping to act on behalf of the maritime administration of the Republic of Latvia. It covers authorization for PRS to act in full scope during the performance of supervision and inspections for compliance with the requirements of international conventions and local law of ships flying the Latvian flag, in operation, as well as under construction or reconstruction. The agreement was signed by the provisions of the Code for Recognized Organizations (RO Code).
Latvia is a Baltic country whose coastline stretches for almost 500 kilometers, of which about 200 km along the coast of the Baltic Sea and the remaining 300 km along the Gulf of Riga. The Latvian Maritime Administration joined the Paris Memorandum on Port State Inspection (Paris MoU) on 12 May 2005. Until now, the flag was listed on the so-called white list of administrations whose fleet maintains a high level. This year, Latvia has topped the Paris MoU grey list, which includes administrations whose fleet continues to maintain an acceptable level of compliance with a low level of detentions.
This is already the 44th authorization that PRS has obtained, striving to achieve the highest possible number of recognitions and broaden access to the maritime market.
